16 January 2026

Tararua District Council has announced the appointment of their new Chief Executive, Corin Haines.

Corin joins the organisation from Masterton District Council, where he is currently Group Manager, Community, and has held a range of senior leadership roles.

Tararua District Mayor Scott Gilmore said, “We had a high calibre of applicants, but Corin impressed us with his ability to lead transformative change, get buy in from staff and the community, while still having a strong service delivery focus. We’re excited to welcome Corin to council in this vital role.”

Corin says “I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve Tararua District in this capacity, and I appreciate the confidence shown in me. Our community expects and deserves excellence from council, and I’m committed to ensuring we deliver that by listening to them, building on a great workplace culture and drawing on the strengths of our people.”

Corin and his wife will be relocating to the district, along with their two dogs and 7 chickens, and will begin with council on 1 March 2026.

He will be taking over the role from Interim Chief Executive Malcolm Alexander, who stepped in to support council following the Departure of former chief executive Bryan Nicholson in August 2025.

Mayor Scott said “I want to thank Malcolm for lending us his considerable skill and professionalism as he ensured council operations continued, and the valuable strategic advice he has provided. Council has been lucky to have him, and we are grateful for all he has contributed”.

Tararua District Council was supported in the recruitment process by Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ). “We are grateful for the support provided by LGNZ to secure a candidate of such high calibre” Mayor Scott said.
