Mandatory Boil Water Notice: Akitio
Akitio Water Supply,
9 February 4:00pm
Tararua District Council has issued a boil water notice for the Akitio water supply due to a positive E.coli test result. This has been identified as part of the cyclical sampling of water from the reticulation network.
For this mandatory boil water notice to be lifted, we will need at least 3 consecutive days of clear tests. Further testing will be undertaken tomorrow, and an update will be provided on Friday, 11 February 2022. Staff will be investigating the potential contamination source and, in the interim, have elevated the chlorine levels to mitigate risks associated with this contamination.
Mandatory Boil Water Notice for the Akitio Water Supply Issues on Wednesday, 9 February 2022. 4:00pm Until notified, Akitio residents are advised to boil water before using it for:
Electric jugs with a cut-off switch can be used as long as they are full – allow the water to come to the boil and wait for it to switch off (do not hold the switch down to increase the boiling time). Water can also be placed in a clean metal pan and brought to a rolling boil for one minute. Boiled water should be covered and allowed to cool in the same container. People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, pregnant women, and some elderly may be at increased risk. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. If you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor or Healthline 0800 611 116.
