Our roading teams are working hard

Works continue on our road network to open roads and ensure they are as stable and safe as possible. 13 roads remain closed, and many others have cautions or restrictions applied. Information regarding the status of our roads is being maintained on Council’s website; www.tararuadc.govt.nz/roads

$10 million initial emergency works funding has been approved by Waka Kotahi – NZ Transport Agency. This funding covers the immediate response and continuing works. Discussions continue with Waka Kotahi regarding the broader emergency works funding application for permanent repairs and, ideally, investment in improving the resilience in our key routes.

Initial assessments have been completed and we know the full emergency works programme will be large and will include some very complex sites. We know all this has a huge impact on many of our residents. Please bear with us, as we work through the best options to ensure we come out of this trying time more resilient. We’ll be talking to you about our ideas along the way, so stay tuned.

Be informed, get involved

Want to receive information relevant to your neighbourhood on your smartphone? Have an issue that needs to be reported to council? Additionally, Antenno is a convinient way to report issues to council, and it give us all the necessary details so we can take care of issues efficiently.

Be part of the solution

If you have a few hours a week and are happy to help your community, we still need volunteers. Some heavy lifting might be required. Ring the Tararua District Council Customer Services team on 06 374 4080 (North) or 06 376 0110 (South).

Be aware when clearing flood debris

Cases of Leptospirosis are starting to appear in communities that have been affected by flooding. Leptospirosis is a blood infection caused by bacteria. Please take precautions when clearing flood debris:

• Wear gloves.
• Cover any cuts and scratches.
• Wash hands thoroughly and regularly (especially before eating).
• Wear protective clothing.
