Bylaws, Policies and Local Legislation
Local Legislation and Bylaws
In addition to the legislation that applies to all local authorities, some Councils are bound by specific local legislation (Acts that apply specifically to those Councils). However, no specific local legislation exists which confers powers on the Tararua District Council.
Bylaws give additional powers to manage Council activities; address nuisance, health and safety and offensive behaviour. They provide various powers such as to impose fees, allow access to property, and set notice provisions for required actions.
Policies
Council policies provide guidance for making decisions on different subjects and help to ensure consistency of those decisions to achieve a desired outcome.
