Learning from progress up the hill
2 April 2024
With Te Ahu a Turanga: Manawatū Tararua Highway on the countdown to completion next year, a group of the roading team from Tararua Alliance visited the project recently to learn from this major project while it’s still in construction.
From pavement construction to structures, drainage and environmental controls, the highway project has a wealth of knowledge to share with our local roading engineers, asset managers and those managing our district’s many recovery sites. Thank you to the team at Te Ahu a Turanga for this invaluable opportunity.
Looking at work starting up after the Easter break, earthworks will be starting on Weber Road at ‘Simmon’s Hill’ for the construction of a road retreat – digging in to the hill to make way for the road, on. Delays aren’t expected to be long but there will be some truck crossings. This work is expected to take about four weeks provided the weather holds.
Maunga Road in Dannevirke is having a number of dropouts addressed. Waituna Road in Pahiatua will be closed for several hours on 2 April from 9am to 3pm to enable safety railing to be installed. This work, which also includes slope stabilisation, will continue under Stop/Go until 5 April. You can also find roading updates on the Tararua District Council Facebook page.
