Bringing the dog paddle to life
It’s been a few years since our canine friends have had a swim pass at the Makino Aquatic Centre but on Saturday April 20 our furry friends will have an exclusive opportunity.
It’s a well-known fact that dogs like to swim, yet other than the river or private pools, there are few areas that water can be deep enough to swim safely without the current that adds to the danger. As the Makino Aquatic Centre’s (MAC) outdoor pool soon comes to a close for another season, the staff will take a week to shut off the chemicals from the pool after closing to ensure that the pool is safe enough for animals before hosting Dogs in Togs.
Dogs in Togs is an opportunity for dogs to come and swim in the outdoor pool with other dogs of a similar size. “Pets are much loved family members so it’s exciting to be able to extend the opportunity to swim to dogs as well”, Aimee Flanders, Aquatic Services Manager explains. “It’s a great way to make use of the outdoor pools one last time this season.”
With three public Dogs in Togs sessions open for registrations based on dog size being offered on Saturday 20 April it is expected to be a pool paw-ty to remember. Registrations are currently open on the MAC website.
Dogs must arrive on leads, be vaccinated and be sociable dogs which is defined as having the ability to interact well with strangers and other dogs. Owners are welcome to join their furry friends in the pool but it is strongly advised that humans keep their heads above the water.
