Cemeteries
There are eight Council operated cemeteries and three privately-managed cemeteries in the Manawatū District.

Council-owned Cemeteries
Feilding Cemetery
Feilding Cemetery is the Manawatū Districts largest cemetery, set in a peaceful location surrounded by rolling farmland. Council has purchased land to the north-east of the cemetery for future development. Feilding cemetery includes provisions for burials, ash interments, a memorial garden and RSA section. The first recorded burial here was in November, 1886 though it is known to be older than that. Feilding Cemetery is located on Lethbridge Road - Google Map.
Halcombe Cemetery
Halcombe Cemetery is a rural cemetery located on a hillside to the south of Halcombe village. This cemetery includes provisions for burials and ash interments. The first recorded burial here was in November, 1884. Halcombe Cemetery is located on Halcombe Road - Google Map.
Kimbolton Cemetery
Kimbolton Cemetery is a rural cemetery located on a hillside with breath-taking views across to the Ruahine Ranges. This cemetery includes provisions for burials and ash interments. The first recorded burial here was in August, 1890. Kimbolton Cemetery is located on Rangiwahia Road, just north of Kimbolton - Google Map.
Pohangina Cemetery
Pohangina Cemetery is one of our smaller cemeteries and can be found on the northern edge of Pohangina village and includes a large amount of plantings and trees. This cemetery includes provisions for burials and ash interments. The first recorded burial here was in June, 1913. Pohangina Cemetery is located on Kuku Road - Google Map.
Rangiwahia Cemetery
Rangiwahia Cemetery is our most northern cemetery and is surrounded by working farmland and Department of Conservation land. This cemetery includes provisions for burials and ash interments. Rongotea Cemetery
Rongotea Cemetery is the Manawatū Districts second most active cemetery which can be found to the east of Rongotea village. This cemetery includes provisions for burials and ash interments. The first recorded burial here was in August, 1886. Rongotea Cemetery is located on the corner of Rongotea and Leen Road - Google Map.
Sandon Cemetery
Sandon Cemetery is surrounded by rolling farmland and connected to Sanson township via a walkway. This cemetery includes provisions for burials and ash interments. The first recorded burial here was in August, 1886. Sandon Cemetery is located on a tight bend down Cemetery Road - Google Map.
Waituna West Cemetery
Waituna West Cemetery is a small cemetery located in the heart of Waituna West’s village. This cemetery includes provisions for burials and ash interments. The first recorded burial here was in January, 1901. Waituna West Cemetery is located on Waituna Tapuae Road - Google Map.
Private Cemeteries
The three privately-managed cemeteries in our district are located in Apiti, Kiwitea and Stanway. If you would like contact information for these cemeteries, feel free to call us and we can give you the most up to date contact information.
Reserving a plot for future use
Plots can only be purchased as part of an interment. Pre-purchasing of plots is not permitted, with the exception of the deceased’s family having the option to purchase an adjacent plot at the time of burial. Plot purchase requests can be made directly with the Cemeteries Administrator or through a funeral director. The reason for limiting pre-purchased plots is that they often remain unused for decades, taking up valuable space in our cemeteries and making them “full” before they have reached capacity and therefore making them unusable for recent burials.
Organising a burial or ashes interment
If you are organising a burial, you will need to be in touch with a funeral director who can take care of the process. If you live outside of the Manawatū District, you can either use a funeral director from our region, or your own.
