Roads & Footpaths

The Manawatu District Council has a road network that spans 1,369 kilometres. This network includes 980 kilometres of sealed roads and 380 bridges

The roading team is responsible for the maintenance of the following Council owned assets:

  • Bridges and culverts
  • Pedestrian crossings (with the exception of state highways)
  • Kerb and channel (urban) and roadside drains (rural, with the exception of Horizon drains)
  • Footpaths
  • Traffic islands
  • Road marking
  • Road pavement and surfacing
  • Roadside vegetation (rural only)
  • Safety barriers and sight rails
  • Retaining walls and other structures
  • Street lights
  • Road signs

An effective roading network is essential for the economic and social wellbeing of the community.
