Keith Elliott Street is named after a soldier, born in Āpiti and raised in Feilding. He enlisted as a soldier at the beginning of World War II and is one of 21 New Zealanders to have won the British Victoria Cross for valour on the battlefield.

Upon returning to civilian life, Keith became an Anglican priest after a short stint as a farmer, and he served as the vicar of the Pohangina Church for a period of time.

It's these stories that the The Poppy Places Project aims to captured so that they're not lost from our collective consciousness.

Manawatū District Council has been given permission to mark Keith Elliot Street, along with Andrew Street, Churchill Avenue, Freyberg Street, Montgomery Street, and Russell Street with an official poppy flower of the Royal New Zealand Returned and Serviceman’s Association (RNZRSA).

The stories of these soldiers will be uploaded and available to view from the Poppy Places website.
