Draft Waste Management & Minimisation Plan
Closed: 18 August 2024
Tararua District Council seeks your views on its draft Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2024.
The Waste Management and Minimisation Plan sets out Council’s plans to minimise and manage the waste in our district. It is a requirement of the Waste Minimisation Act 2008 to adopt a Waste Management and Minimisation Plan, and to review this plan at least every six years.
The draft Plan sets the priorities and strategic framework for managing waste in the Tararua District. We are keen to hear your views on the draft Plan.
Some of the key actions in our draft Plan include:
- Investigate options for meeting central government requirements, including supporting services such as a possible household rubbish collection.
- Investigate options for meeting central governments requirement for a household food scraps collection for Dannevirke, Woodville, and Pahiatua.
- Investigate a user-pays garden waste collection for urban areas where this is not already provided by the private sector.
- Install an additional weighbridge at Pahiatua Transfer Station to enable more accurate data collection and charging.
- Regular audit of kerbside recycling bins and implement a contamination enforcement system.
Printed copies of the statement of proposal, draft Waste Management and Minimisation Plan, a submission form and a copy of the Waste Assessment are also available from any of Council’s libraries / customer service centres.
