Tararua Cyclone Gaberielle Photo Book
On this day two years ago, Cyclone Gabrielle caused widespread damage across the Tararua, Hawkes bay, Tairāwhiti, Wairarapa and Manawatū regions. The devastation was immense, but the response from our community was even greater.
Thanks to the amazing effort and collaboration throughout the Tararua District, we have achieved so much together. Communities, organisations, funding providers, Tararua District Council staff, and Tararua Alliance crews all worked tirelessly and collaboratively to rebuild and improve our district.
Today, we are announcing the release of the digital version of our Cyclone Gabrielle photo book to acknowledge this significant event.
Mayor Tracey Collis says "I am proud to say that our strength lies in our collective willingness and ability to mobilise and collaborate to support our communities during emergencies. The RecoveryOffice, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua, Rangitāne o Tamaki nui-ā-Rua,
Local Communities, District Council and Rural Support Trust have also been actively involved in initiatives to build community resilience ahead of the next disaster event, working alongside our partner organisations."
None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support and collaboration of all the community, both impacted and beyond.
Thank you to everyone who played a part in our recovery. Together, we are stronger.
