Alcohol Ban Areas
Tararua District Council adopted a new Alcohol Bylaw after consultation with the local community. The Bylaw took effect on 30 September 2024.
Alcohol Ban Areas:

| Dannevirke Central Business District | 24 hours per day, seven days a week |
| Pahiatua | 24 hours per day, seven days a week |
| Ākitio Beach | from 12 noon on 24 December in any year to 7:00am on 3 January of the following year at all times |

Tararua District Alcohol Bylaw 2024
Important: A breach of the alcohol ban area is an offence, and an infringement notice ($250) may be issued.
On the days of the week and during the hours prescribed for each alcohol ban zone, you cannot:
- consume alcohol
- bring alcohol into the zone
- possess alcohol
The exception to this is where you are transporting alcohol in unopened containers within an alcohol control area. This is permitted, subject to certain conditions. See section 147 of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 for further details.
Additionally, these restrictions do not apply to any licensed premises during any period in which the licensee is serving or allowing the consumption of alcohol in any area covered by an on-licence or special licence.
