Event Support

Council was granted $25,000 from DIA to support wellbeing events across the district.

Thus far we have supported the following events using this money, and we still have plans in the pipeline to support upcoming events linked to Recovery.

- RST Cyclone Relief Event: Fencing Supplies and Wellbeing packages

- MSFTs event: ‘Fuel Your Stoke’.

RST Cyclone Relief Event: Fencing Supplies and Wellbeing packages:

On Thursday 30th November 2023, over 150 cyclone impacted Tararua District farmers came along to the Dannevirke A&P showgrounds to take part in the Tararua Rural Support Trust Cyclone Recovery Expo.

This event, created and run by Tararua Rural Support Trust, saw farmers receive a trailer load of free fencing gear which included a bundle of posts, wire, staples, and permanent strainers.

The local team at Turtons Farm Supplies Dannevirke, volunteers from Growater and Enhanced Taskforce Green loaded each vehicle as they arrived..  Farmers were then directed to park and head into the hall for hot food, coffee, catch ups with the Tararua Distrcit Cyclone Recovery Team and other rural services and providers.  They were also invited to collect a goodie bag packed full of useful things, and some treats, to try and make this time of year a little easier.

The Tararua District Council Recovery Team was able to support through supplying administrative support, putting in a small contribution to the event and having a stall for any council related questions.

Through this event Tararua Rural Support Trust was able to to give over $200,000 back to Tararua cyclone impacted farmers.  This has been funded through generous donations made to the East Coast Rural Support Trust.

MSFTS Event:

Tararua District Council & Tararua Rural Support Trust were thrilled to bring the special, one-off MSFT Productions/SPARK THAT CHAT event ‘Fuel Your Stoke’ to Pongaroa in February 2024 as part of the Cyclone Recovery Program.  The event brought smiles, created a ripple of positivity and promoted good mental health practices.

This was a special, one-off, free gig on Sunday February 18th at the Pongaroa Sports Ground/Domain.

The free, BYO, all ages, family friendly event kicked off at 2pm and ran through until 8pm. It included 5 bands, 3 speakers, bouncy castles and free food for attendees.

It really was an afternoon filled with live music, inspiring talks, delicious hot food and activities for kids and adults and helped us mark one year since the devastating impact of Cyclone Gabrielle on our District.
