Dog Education Programme

The Council provides a free dog education programme for children, schools, adults and the community.

The programme is designed to provide education on how to care for dogs and how to keep yourself safe around dogs. We recognise that not all people have had contact with a dog, or have had an unpleasant experience with a dog. The programme is designed to provide an opportunity to safely interact with a real dog, but can also offer alternatives to those who are afraid of dogs.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  • Reduce the incidents of dog bites
  • Explain dog behaviour and understand what may cause a dog to bite
  • Give strategies on how to avoid attacks or bites
  • Give information on responsible dog ownership

If you are interested in the Dog Education programme or would like further information please contact Council.
