Environmental Sustainability Strategy

Council is currently developing a strategy which sets out the steps Council will take to fulfil its responsibilities as a steward for the environment. It will be made up of two parts:

  1. A corporate strategic action plan. This will focus on what Council can do at an operational level to measure and reduce our emissions and reduce our waste to landfill. As of November 2021, this plan is being finalised.
  2. A plan for how Council will partner with our community to improve environmental outcomes for the district. Community input into this plan will begin in early 2022.

See Council’s Environmental Stocktake below, which provides a snapshot of the Manawatū environment and describes an overview of the pressures that have shaped it – both historically and today. It also sets out the legislative responsibilities for Council as stewards of the natural environment.
