Bringing the library to your doorstep
Manawatū Community Hub Libraries provide a home delivery service for individuals who are unable to visit the library in person due to factors such as disability, age, or illness.
Libraries act as inclusive community hubs, offering a wide range of resources to all, often at no cost. The memories of the nationwide lockdown in 2020 due to COVID-19 highlighted the importance of easy access to resources. This Homelink service addresses these needs by conveniently delivering items to people's doorsteps.
This service is available to local residents of all ages and stages of life, whether for regular use or during unexpected circumstances. Kirsty Meads, Library Knowledge and Content Leader, emphasizes that “the library is for everyone, and if individuals cannot visit in person, the library will come to them.” This reflects the service's mission to provide connectivity and break down barriers.
Homelink offers a range of items such as books, DVDs, games, audiobooks, magazines, and puzzles. Selections are personalised based on preferences, and volunteers deliver them every two weeks. These dedicated volunteers, who are commonly avid library users, value the service and have established trusted relationships with residents.
The delivery service caters to urban Feilding residents, as well as four local rest homes, all at no cost. Currently, over 100 items are distributed, with the potential to expand further within the local district. Homelink, has been a long-standing offering that we have rebranded and now offer recipients sturdy, branded bags to transport their borrowed items.
“There is a strong enthusiasm to expand this service and broaden its reach.” Meads explains. If you or someone you know could benefit from this service, please do not hesitate to make contact.
