Star Wars Day Set to Bring the Force to the Community Hub
The Force is strong with this one! On Sunday, May 4th, the Manawatū Community Hub Libraries will transform into a galaxy far, far away for a Star Wars themed celebration at Te Āhuru Mōwai, located at 64 Stafford Street, Feilding from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
"Star Wars Day has become a well known celebration around the world, and we’re excited to bring a local version to the Manawatū community," said Marie Willis, Community Hub Programmes Leader. "There’s something for everyone, whether you're into crafting, lightsabers, or just want a selfie with a Stormtrooper."
Outpost 42, a New Zealand-based Star Wars costume group, will be on site, offering photo ops for fans. Props will be available to complete the perfect snapshot or come dressed in costume for a chance to win a spot prize.
Attendees can also take part in a variety of themed activities such as VR Lightsaber Dojo, Lego Race, Badge Making, Lantern Crafts, Acrylic Coaster Making, and a Scavenger Hunt. Lightsaber Training with the Palmerston North Knights will also be available.
Costumes are highly encouraged, with spot prizes awarded throughout the day. Star Wars themed merchandise will be available for purchase, and a raffle offers the chance to win a special Star Wars prize pack for just $2 a ticket.
Library Services Leader Warrick Taylor said the event also provides a unique way to engage the community. "This is more than just a celebration of a movie franchise, it’s about imagination, connection, and creativity. Events like this help make the Hub a place where people of all ages feel welcome and inspired."
So, dust off your robes, ignite your lightsaber, and head down to the Community Hub for a Star Wars Day, where there’s something for everyone.
May the Fourth be with you!
