Local Facilities Unite Offering a Diverse April Holiday Programme
Fill your school holidays with learning, exploring, creating and celebrating as two of the district’s community focused facilities the Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (MCHL) and Makino Aquatic Centre (MAC) are joining forces to bring a diverse selection of activities to families.
The two-week programme features a variety of events across both facilities for ages 5+. Whether your child is interested in arts and crafts, books, tech, sports, or just having fun with friends, there’s plenty to do.
One of the standout events will be boatbuilding at the MAC, led by the MCHL team. Children will have the chance to design and create their own boats, which they can then test by floating in the pool. It’s a hands-on way for kids to creatively explore science.
For younger children, MAC staff will host a free Pre-School Water Safety Session at MCHL. During this session, children will learn essential water safety tips in a playful, interactive setting, providing valuable lessons on staying safe around water.
Other highlights of the school holiday programme include story time, a movie session and Deano Yipadee’s Children’s writing workshop and show.
Back again these School holidays is the MAC’s Colouring Competition- this time with an Easter theme. Pick up your colouring sheet from reception or download it from the makino.co.nz, The MAC’s disco party has also returned this time featuring water guns, pizza and pool games. The party is a great way to burn off energy and have a blast with friends.
Additionally, MCHL's Makerspace will host two workshops for older children, featuring jewellery-making and sublimation tote bag printing. These workshops are designed to allow children to create something special and learn new skills in an engaging environment.
With so many exciting events to look forward to, these April school holidays are shaping up to be a memorable time for families. Whether you’re building boats, VR Sessions, learning about water safety, attending a disco party or Deano Yipadee Children’s writing workshop and show, the Manawatū Community Hub Libraries and Makino Aquatic Centre are ready to make this school break the best one yet.
