Incredible Day of Fun, Laughter, and Community Spirit!
The Manawatū community came together on Sunday for a day full of fun and connection at Family Fun Day, held at Victoria Park, Feilding. The event, which was completely free and open to all, was a huge success. Attracting a large crowd of families, friends, and neighbours for a day of entertainment and celebration. It offered a welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy, regardless of age or background, making it a true community affair.
The smiles on the faces of children and families were a clear reminder of why events like this are so important. The MCHL team has received many heartwarming stories about the impact the event had on the community, inspiring them to do even more to support and engage with it moving forward. Family Fun Day has become a one-of-a-kind annual event that sets a precedent for creating an open, inclusive space where families can enjoy everything together.
Marie Willis, Community Hub Programmes Leader, perfectly captured the essence of the event when she said, “This event demonstrates true community spirit, bringing us together.” While the activities were a major highlight, the event also provided a platform to showcase local community organisations, reinforcing the sense of connection and collective effort. It was about creating an inclusive space where people could come together, build relationships, and enjoy each other’s company without any barriers.
Joey Mckechnie, Youth Engagement Coordinator, expressed his gratitude for the collective effort, saying, “We’re incredibly grateful to all the businesses, organisations, and volunteers who made this day possible.” Their contributions allowed the event to remain free of charge, ensuring that everyone in the community, regardless of financial situation, could participate and enjoy the day.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities for all ages, including various inflatables, face painting, games, rocket building, balloon blasting, and interactive stations. Free giveaways and kai such as yoghurts, cotton candy, popcorn, and sizzling sausages kept everyone energized throughout the day. The diverse range of activities ensured there was something for everyone, making it an exciting and enjoyable experience for families and individuals alike.
