Great Reads & Bargains at Manawatū Community Hub Libraries’ Annual Book Sale
As Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (MCHL) prepare for their much-anticipated Annual Book Sale this July, the buzz isn’t just about bargains. These books and items are part of our community collection, and we're offering them back to the community through this sale.
“We’re constantly reviewing our shelves,” explains Warrick Taylor, Library Services Leader. “To keep the collection up to date, we need to make space for new books and collection items. This sale helps us do that while giving the public a chance to take home great items at unbeatable prices.” It’s about the bigger picture of how libraries stay relevant, and responsive to their community’s needs.
From well-loved novels and children’s books to DVDs, puzzles, toys, and miscellaneous items. There will be something for everyone on offer and many books priced at $3 or less. Some are duplicate copies, others have simply aged out of circulation, but all are looking for a second life beyond Te Āhuru Mōwai’s walls.
“Library collections grow fast,” says Kirsty Meads, Library Content Leader. “We receive new releases regularly, and we can’t keep everything. That’s why we ‘weed’ the shelves it helps us maintain a relevant and useful collection.”
Weeding is the professional term for retiring outdated or surplus items and is essential to making space, reducing clutter, and ensuring that collections remain useful, accessible, and enjoyable for all ages. Through this annual sale, MCHL gives pre-loved items a new lease on life and puts them back into the hands of the community.
Running from 12 to 19 July 2025 at Te Āhuru Mōwai, 64 Stafford Street, Feilding (closed Sunday 13 July), the sale starts at 9:30am each day and promises something for families, collectors and casual browsers.
