Fun-Filled January Holiday Programme

The Manawatū Community Hub Libraries (MCHL) started off the new year with an interesting January Summer School Holidays programme, offering a variety of activities that engaged families and children of all ages.

A standout this summer was the return of the Readopoly summer reading programme, which embraced a space theme. This popular initiative encouraged children to embark on a reading adventure, with all Readopoly boards quickly being claimed. Participants submitted their completed boards for a chance to win book prize packs, with three lucky winners announced: Levi Hamilton (Under 5), George Pedley (6-8 years), and JJ Burney (9-12 years).

The summer holiday programme also featured Movie Mondays, providing a cozy setting for families to enjoy family-friendly films. The Virtual Reality (VR) sessions were popular, even with the increased number of sessions offered. A Jump Jam performance by students from Colyton School, designed for children to participate in, was also warmly welcomed.

Val Leighton, Library Hub Specialist responsible for the craft activities, expressed her delight, saying, "It's always a pleasure to see the creativity and enthusiasm that the children bring to the projects. I enjoy watching them have fun and marvel at what they create." The Makerspace also offered a creative outlet for children this summer, with workshops such as vinyl decal designs on t-shirts, sublimated drink bottles, and emboss stamping, providing hands-on learning.

The holiday programme concluded with a special community event by Sport Manawatū celebrating the newly installed basketball half court on the Hobson Street side of Te Āhuru Mōwai. The Property Brokers Jets impressed with their basketball skills, while the Manawatū Community Hub Libraries team kept the crowd entertained with the play trailer and sausage sizzle.

The MCHL team delivered a range of activities, most of which were free, ensuring that everyone could enjoy a summer full of fun. MCHL will resume term time programming 3 February, families are encouraged to explore the What's On calendar at Events Calendar | Manawatū Community Hub Libraries for more details.

This January holiday programme was a perfect mix of fun, creativity, and community spirit, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated.
