August at the Hub: Free Services, Local Support & Community Partnerships
Step inside Te Āhuru Mōwai and you will find more than just books on the shelves. You will also find people, passion, and community connections coming to life. Manawatū Community Hub Libraries helps to support incredible organisations that serve our community all year round. For the month of August, we're shining a light on these community partnerships and the everyday people who give their time, share their skills, and make a real difference in practical ways.
From learning how to perform CPR with Hato Hone St John, to finalising that form you have been putting off with the help of a Justice of the Peace, there’s something real and useful for everyone. Drop in for a friendly legal chat with Community Law or come along to a Alzheimers Society info session. Best of all, every one of these services are completely free.
The Hub also welcomes newcomers to the Manawatū through inclusive multicultural groups — whether you’ve relocated from elsewhere in New Zealand or arrived as a migrant, immigrant, or refugee. These groups are here to help you feel at home, make connections, and become an active part of the community.
It’s not just the big names making a difference either. Mary Howard has been growing a Mahjong group at the hub as she teaches new players each term, building their confidence, and creating a sociable space.
Then there are volunteers like Kirsty Brown and Arthur Howe, who support the MCHL team.Using their time and enthusiasm these volunteers create spaces where kids can explore, and play. Their energy is part of what makes the Hub more than just a building, it’s a place where everyone can contribute and feel part of something special.
So come along, bring a question, lend a hand, or just have a chat. These services are available all year, but August is the perfect time to discover just how much they offer—and how easy it is to get involved. To learn more about the services offered visit Public Services | Manawatū Community Hub Libraries or stay tuned throughout the month as we spotlight the services and people that help to make our District feel like home.
