Response: | Official information request - Information regarding current and future maintenance requirements for Council owned roads intersecting with State Highway 54. The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) received your Official Information Request: Roading Infrastructure, dated 20 November 2024. On 6 December NZTA emailed MDC requesting that some of the information you requested should be provided by MDC. MDC does not maintain or improve State Highway 54 (Kimbolton Road). State Highways are administered by NZTA. However, MDC has made a number of suggestions to NZTA regarding possible improvements along the section of State Highway 54 referenced by the map provided above. The table below lists the available plans and costings relating to problems and conceptual improvements, which is available through this link LG_2319_Documents_for_release.zip
Every 3 years MDC consults on its Long Term Plans as a requirement under the Local Government Act 2002, Part 6 Planning, decision-making, and accountability. The outcomes of the consultation process inform the development of MDC’s various Activity Management Plans. MDC’s roading maintenance requirements for the period 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2027 are documented in its Land Transport Network Activity Management Plan. This document is available from MDC’s website by clicking on the following link (Roading 2024-27 Activty Management Plan). Other than routine maintenance, currently there aren’t any works proposed for the intersections of MDC’s local roads with the State Highway 54. Document 7 is a conceptual improvement option developed by MDC. While State Highways are administered by NZTA, MDC will seek NZTA’s approval to carry out this improvement on its behalf. If approval was forthcoming the project would be included in the in MDC’s 2027-30 Long Term Plan and NZTA’s 2027-30 National Land Transport Programme. The project could then be considered and prioritised for funding by both organisations. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
