Healthcare Services
There are GPs and Nurse-Led Services in all the main townships of Tararua - as well as a Community Hospital in Dannevirke.
These free services are available also:
Diabetes and Cardiovascular Screening
Delivers a diabetes and cardiovascular risk-screening service for high-need populations within the Tararua District. The programme is designed to improve access to primary care and health promotion services for those whose clinical condition, history, and lifestyle factors indicate need.
Free Sexual Health Services
Free sexual health services have been available to a targeted population within the PHO. The target population is everyone under the age of 19 years and those with a community services card aged between 19-24 years. These services can be accessed at any of the practices within the Tararua District and may be with either a general practitioner or a nurse.
0800 Healthline
This service aims to ensure the Tararua community has ready access to a health professional at all times to deal with urgent and out of hours related problems. This service is sub-contracted to the Dannevirke Community Hospital which provides a registered nurse to carry out the service. Phone 0800 611 116
Community-Referred Ultrasound
The Tararua PHO offers free community referred ultrasound services to those people enrolled with the PHO. These services are on an as-needed basis and must be referred by a general practitioner.

Services in the Tararua District
Police
There is a Police service based in Dannevirke that serves Dannevirke, Norsewood and Pongaroa. There is also Police service based in Pahiatua that serves Woodville, Pahiatua and Eketāhuna. Both stations come under the Central Region based in Palmerston North.

Justice and Courts
The Dannevirke District Court has fortnightly court days - cases from Dannevirke are dealt with here; serious or urgent cases are heard in Palmerston North until remand date. Cases from Pahiatua and Woodville are filed in Palmerston North. Cases from Eketāhuna are filed in Masterton.

Oranga Tamariki
Oranga Tamariki has a Dannevirke office located at 16 Allardice Street. The Dannevirke office comes under the Palmerston North region and services Norsewood, Dannevirke, Woodville and Pahiatua. Eketāhuna is serviced by the Masterton Office.
Work and Income
There is an office in Dannevirke at 79 High Street and in Pahiatua at the Heartland Service Centre. Dannevirke is part of the Central Region and the regional office is in Palmerston North. Services in Dannevirke are provided Monday - Friday. Pahiatua is serviced for four hours on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Eketāhuna and Woodville areas are serviced once a month. Some clients in Eketāhuna may be dealt with by the Masterton office due to its close proximity.

Inland Revenue Department
All towns are serviced from Palmerston North. The IRD is available one afternoon a week in the Dannevirke REAP office.

District Health Board
MidCentral DHB services the whole area except Norsewood, which comes under Hawke's Bay DHB. There are ten beds available in Tararua attached to general practitioners. There is an ambulance service in each town and a heavy reliance on the rescue helicopter for serious situations because of the travel through the Manawatu Gorge to Palmerston North Hospital.

Community Services
REAP (Rural Education and Activity Programmes) - More information
Tararua REAP is based in Dannevirke and services Norsewood, Dannevirke and Woodville. Wairarapa REAP services from the Manawatu Gorge, not including Woodville, east to Ākitio and all areas south.
Rangitāne o Tamaki nui a Rua
This is a Maori social service provider that provides a range of services throughout the Tararua District. It works under a kaupapa Maori framework but services are available to the whole community. Work is with individuals, whanau and groups. The counselling service is based in Dannevirke.
